AFFINE - a free and open-source alternative to Notion

While surfing the internet one day, I unexpectedly discovered a free and open-source note-taking software called "affine," which claims to be a replacement for Notion. It also supports local usage, which is convenient because I have been experiencing some lag with using Shimo documents and wanted to try using a local note-taking software. So, out of curiosity, I downloaded this software, which led to this article today.

Software Download#

Firstly, as usual, here is the download link for the software: https://affine.pro/

Initial Impression of the Software#

As soon as I opened the software, I was amazed by its aesthetics. It is simple, clean, and the interface is very comfortable. It is exactly what I like. By default, I already find it quite visually appealing.

User Experience with the Software#

Currently, affine is still in its early stages. In my current experience, I found that it lacks some advanced features similar to Notion. However, its basic features are quite comprehensive. For me, as long as it supports the basic syntax of Markdown, it is perfect. And it does! It not only supports keyboard input but also allows for the creation of various blocks using a mouse, which makes the overall user experience quite comfortable. But its most impressive feature is probably its limitless functionality, allowing the creation of a whiteboard-like interface (possibly a whiteboard tool), which is very useful! (However, I may not use it much.)

Brief Summary#

Because my experience with it was relatively short, and I don't really need advanced features, I haven't explored all of its functions. Therefore, I welcome all the experts to experience this open-source note-taking software together with me~
